Blog Tour: Now and Again by Jennifer Ellision + Giveaway!

Today is a special day because we’ve been visited by awesome author Jennifer Ellision, author of several novels including Now and Again (new adult romance), the Threats of Sky and Sea series (YA fantasy) and more, as part of her book release blog tour. Here’s what you need to know about Now and Again.   Check out this gorgeous trailer.   Now and Again Book Trailer Doesn’t that sound awesome? When I saw the trailer I was dying to read this book and so I did. Here’s a little bit more about it.   Unemployed. Broke. Maid of Honor. All (unfortunately) words that describe Em Hayes. Without any job leads in San Francisco, Em caves to her mother’s promise of free rent and returns home. Her best friend, Nikki, couldn’t be more thrilled. Em’s degree in Event Management is gathering dust, and what better way to put it to use than planning Nikki’s wedding? There’s just one flaw in that plan: Cole Connors. The girls’ former roommate. And part of the reason Em hasn’t been back since college graduation. Em’s never been able to forget Cole—or how close they were before she pushed him aside and ran for the hills. Cole’s never forgotten Em either— but in the past two years, she hasn’t given him much choice but to try. And, according to Nikki, there’s no better pair to plan the wedding of her dreams. Em’s usually good at squashing messy feelings, but being around Cole again brings them all rushing to the surface. And this time, she’s not sure she wants to run.   BUY LINKS Now and Again is available at the following locations: Paperback Amazon Barnes and Noble Kobo iBooks Smashwords Goodreads       You can follow along with the rest of the tour stops below. The Muses Read: Shameless by Nina Lemay

The Muses Read: Shameless by Nina Lemay

We’re all aware Muse KJ has a fondness for books who talk about the taboo, yes? It’s so easy to pretend that life doesn’t get tricky, and bad stuff doesn’t happen, and people don’t do things that are against the grain. News Flash: Life gets tricky. Sometimes bad things happen to people. People go against the grain – often. Which is exactly what I love about this book. Pink hair. Exotic dancer. Tough as nails heroine. And while this book isn’t technically banned… I think #BannedBookWeek is the perfect time to talk about it.  Don’t you agree? Shameless by Nina Lemay Release Date: August 18th 2014 Blurb: ~New Adult Contemporary Romance — recommended for mature readers~ Girls like me don’t get happy endings. I know what I am. At worst a cliché, at best a cautionary tale. I put an international border between me and my past, only to wind up working in a low-end titty bar. Even my excuse is as lame as it gets: I’m paying for college, getting my art degree from Montreal’s most prestigious school. Although some days it becomes confusing: am I just a student who moonlights as a stripper, or a stripper who masquerades as a student? But the inevitable happens and my two lives collide. And now there’s one other person who knows both the quiet, antisocial Hannah and the sensual, shameless Alicia. One person who keeps my secret. He’s beautiful, he’s sophisticated. He comes from the other side of life, the one where I’m not wanted or accepted. But he calls me la petite Américaine, and his hot, hot hands on my skin promise me things I long ago gave up on. The problem? He teaches my Classic Photography class. This is a standalone novel, no series, no cliffhanger. Find it at:  Amazon Muse Kristen’s Thoughts Let’s just get this out of the way – it’s been a long time since I’ve read a New Adult novel that impressed me like this one. By day, Hannah is a shy art student – unsure what she wants in life, simply running from her past. By night, she becomes Alicia – the confident girl who can make you fall in love with her with a spin around a pole, and a shake of a hip. But what happens when the two collide? Because all it takes is one wrong customer…and her worlds will collide. All it takes is for last night’s customer to become today’s professor. I found the characters to be intriguing. Emmanuel is more complex than the average man – but sweet, instead of the broken hero we often see.  Hannah’s voice is realistic, a tinge bitter, and hilarious. He’s the freaking knight in a white Audi. She’s strong, she’s tough – but she’s certainly not flawless. She uses her sharp tongue to keep everyone – especially men – far away from her.  She’s running away from affection before anyone gets close to her. What happens when she meets someone who she’s not sure she wants to run from? Can she move past the scars of her past to become vulnerable before life – and their forbidden romance – get in the way? And, like a weak little girl who can’t resist the piece of candy with the razor hidden inside, I reach for him. I don’t agree with all of Hannah’s actions – but it’s explained why she behaves that way. Her character growth is what impressed me the most – there’s so many ways her story could end, with her character becoming different things – but this ending is the only...

Writing a Serial by Jinsey Reese

Writing a Serial by Jinsey Reese

Early in 2014, I noticed how well serial stories were doing in the ebook market, and in talking to my lovely writer friend Victoria Green, who’d also noticed the trend, we started saying things like “I should try writing a serial. You should too.” “When I finish this book I’m working on, I’m going to have to do it.” Because people were selling MILLIONS of books in serial format. After studying the market and the people who are doing well, I realized there are several factors that make serials successful. 1. Most are written in the romance genre, and romance readers are voracious. They also want more, More, MORE, so giving them more story than just a typical-length book makes them happy. Of course, there were things we were worried about. So many serial authors get criticized that they’re just cutting up one book into pieces. And there’s good reason for that…it’s often true. Not in the sense that the author has written an entire book and then chopped it up. Most serial writers we know of write the story one installment at a time, but each installment is only a small piece of one story. We didn’t want to do that. So when we dreamed up our premise and main characters, Dare Wilde and Reagan McKinley, for the Untamed Series, we decided to write complete stories—with a beginning, middle, and an end—in each book, crafting the plot line into a climax that would resolve…and then end each book on a cliffhanger. Because of that, our books ended up being longer than most serial installments. At a little over 40,000 words each, they’re short novels. Once the final book in the series is released mid-August, we will have plotted, written, polished and published over 200,000 words in five months. One of the most surprising things about writing the serial, has been how fun it has been to write an epic story. Because of this format, we’ve told a more expansive story than we ever would have dreamed up if we’d just written a normal 350-page novel. We’ve be able to show incredible growth of our characters because so much more happens thanks to the serial format. We liken each book to an episode of your favorite TV drama. Just like each hour-long episode, each book in our series gives a complete story that is a part of a much larger, epic saga. We made these decisions because as readers we didn’t like the idea of getting only a little piece of a story, and so we wanted to make sure we were delivering good value. Giving our readers plenty of story to keep them hooked. 2. Serial spin-offs just make readers happier. Readers get attached to characters. Even minor ones. And they get deliriously happy when secondary and tertiary characters get their own books/series. So we planned that aspect out from the beginning—companion serials—and make sure our readers KNOW they have more to look forward to once we wrap up the Untamed Series. Our male lead in this first series is Dare Wilde, who has two brothers and a sister who’ve had cameos in several of the books. They are total fodder for companion serials, and so we dubbed the entire (future) set of serials The Brothers Wilde Collection. With this first series we’re creating a loyal following who are already hounding us for series about the other Wilde siblings, as well as books starring the members of (Dare’s older brother) Dash Wilde’s band, who all appeared in Escaped Artist (Untamed #3). We’re opening up our options to give...

Review: Out of Control by Jinsey Reese and Victoria Green

Review: Out of Control by Jinsey Reese and Victoria Green

Just in time for the summer heat and the 4th of July fireworks, we have an astonishingly sexy read for you that is sure to set your skin ablaze and send out sparks of their own. Muse tested and Muse approved. Frankly, I’m not entirely sure how I’ve lived my life this long without this series. Have you heard of it? It’s  OUT OF CONTROL by Jinsey Reese and Victoria Green. Can someone please make this a movie or a tv show or something? K THX BYE.   About OUT OF CONTROL Three years have passed since Dare Wilde walked out of Reagan McKinley’s life. Three years of radio silence. Three years of regrets. But she’s not the same girl anymore. Now, at twenty-two, Reagan has big plans to change her life, and it all starts with a trip to Europe. Instead of heading into Harvard Law like her parents had planned, she’s crossed the ocean to follow her dreams in the art world. Her dreams. For once.A chance meeting in Paris brings Reagan and Dare face-to-face again, but is it serendipity…or penance? A chasm of unspoken hurt stands between them, but they can’t fight the passion they have for each other. And now that she’s found Dare again—the one person in this world who makes her feel whole—she doesn’t want to let go. Problem is, she may not have a choice. Two parts. One whole.Together…they’re out of control Thoughts on OUT OF CONTROL Yep, Jinsey and Victoria have done it again—ruined my life with this new installment of OUT OF CONTROL. How, you ask? Besides playing with my emotions and leaving me wanting more of Dare, I was so completely obsessed with this that I didn’t want to do anything but read. Dinner? It could wait. Work? What work? Shower? I could handle being smelly. I literally didn’t want to do ANYTHING but read this delectable installment #2 in the Untamed series. I swear to God, they are writing geniuses and a perfectly formed writing team. This story tears at heartstrings. When Dare smiled, I was smiling. When Ree cried, I found my lower lip trembling. When Dare stood up for Ree, I found myself cheering out loud and fist bumping the bewildered people around me. Damn you Jinsey and Victoria for giving me ALL the feels. At one point, the main character admires Dare’s artwork. She praises him for being able to create art that she can almost hear, taste, smell, and touch. So now it’s my turn to applaud Jinsey and Victoria. Thank you for creating such artistic mastery that the words swirl alive off of the page and dance along my senses and my heart. I have, once again, fallen completely in love with Dare and the bond that Dare and Ree have. I’m just a girl, standing here with a novel, asking the two main characters to fall in love. OUT OF CONTROL is the 2nd novel in the Untamed series and it might just be my favorite yet. Well, I don’t know, the original image of Dare sitting on his motorcycle is also pretty hard to shake but…either way, Jinsey and Victoria have outdone themselves again. OUT OF CONTROL is perfect for fans of Gossip Girl, Sex in the City, Nicholas Sparks, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and even Sons of Anarchy. It may seem like an odd combination, but there always seems to be the perfect mixture of emotions, love, romance, secrets, and general badassery that if my mind wasn’t already blown by the first installment, it would be blown right now. If you do not read this...
