Connect with NaNoWriMo

Yes, NaNoWriMo is awesome. But there is something else equally amazing that you can get out of participating… lifelong writing friends and critique partners. The first couple of years I participated in NaNoWriMo, I had no idea that there was an option to connect with other participants, unless of course you had someone specific in mind and knew their username. So today I will show you how to connect with other writers via NaNoWriMo. I really recommend attending some write-ins to enhance your NaNoWriMo experience. Not to mention, think of the fun and support you will get from joining a group of writers from your town! Most likely, this friendship will last all year long, not just November!

 Step One

Hover your mouse over NaNo Near You.
A drop-down bar will appear.
Select Find Your Region

 Step Two

Based off of the information you put in while registering, this page will show you regions that are close to you. In my case, it showed  Los Angeles and Long Beach. However, the suggested regions may not be as close as possible to you (in my case, it’s not).

If the suggested region is close to you, perfect! Select Join this Region.

If the suggested region isn’t closest to you, use the search bar below to type in your desired region. You can search by city or county. In this instance, let’s pretend I live in Fort Collins, CO. I would type in “Fort Collins” and it populates a match if there is one, below.  I would recommend checking out the group before you join by clicking the actual group link. Once you find the region that you live closest to and the one you want to join, select it by choosing Join this Region. You can join more than one region. In my real-life case, I’m smack-dab in between two regions.

  Step Three

Once you’ve selected your region or at least clicked on a region’s page, check it out. There’s always a ton of great stuff. Your Municipal Liaisons will fill out the calendar, post inspiring quotes, etc. Don’t be afraid to contact them to say hello or to offer up your house if you want to host an event! Check out my screenshot below of the awesome group from Fort Collins, CO (LOVE that town BTW).

 Step Four

Get involved and get writing! Have fun! Plan to attend at least one write in. Chances are, you’ll want to go to more than just one. Just in case you have any questions, drop me a line in the contact section or feel free to comment below! We’re here to help!

Wishing you lots of NaNo-fun,
